From the Principal’s Desk

Government College of Education, Jammu is proud to be one of the oldest educational institutions of Jammu and Kashmir. It is proud to have illustrious August alumni like Padamshri Jitendra Udhampuri and prominent social activists like Dr Rita Jitendra and Dr Arun Gupta. The college, at the time of its inception, was a part of Prince of Wales College which is now known as GGM Science College. Till 1948 it was the only teacher training institute in the entire Jammu and Kashmir region. In 1948, the people of the valley got a separate Teacher Training Institute. Later on in 1954, it was merged with the State Institute of Education for in-service Teacher Training. As a training institute it excelled in leaps and bounds and hence looking at its relevance, in 1986, the Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir Government formally inducted it as an important training institute.

Besides having the heritage value, the college has now stepped into a new era of post-modern technology. The paradigm –shift that Covid has brought in our education system has been well accepted by the college by immediately developing state-of-the-art infrastructure for the post-modern teachers who are going to teach the smart generation. Teaching-Learning and Assessment is becoming challenging day-by-day and to cope up with the Alpha generation that is now on the verge of paperless teaching learning mode, our institution is doing its best by working on the concept of Digital pedagogy and Digital Lesson Plans. The value of blended learning is also being realized by our institution hence our teacher educators are trying their best in providing both online and offline facilities whether it is academic activity or co-curricular activities.

As the world is moving at a rapid pace in terms of technological advancements like Artificial Intelligence and other concepts, we as an educational institution also ensure that we do not forget our eternal Indian values of truth, beauty and goodness and we groom responsible future teachers so as to ensure sustainable growth and development of our society, protection of environment, social values, democratic values and above all humanism.

I as Principal of this prestigious institution, welcome all stake holders to visit this institution.
