Government College of Education, Jammu is proud to be one of the oldest educational institutions of Jammu and Kashmir. It is proud to have illustrious alumni like Padamshri Jitendra Udhampuri and prominent social activists like Dr. Rita Jitendra and Dr. Arun Gupta.

The college, at the time of its inception, was a part of Prince of Wales College which is now known as GGM Science College. Till 1948 it was the only teacher training institute in the entire Jammu and Kashmir region. In 1948, the people of the valley got a separate Teacher Training Institute. Later in 1954, it was merged with the State Institute of Education for in-service Teacher Training. In 1986, the Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir Government formally inducted it as an important training institute.

Besides having heritage value, the college has stepped into a new era of post-modern technology. The paradigm shift brought by Covid has been well accepted by the college by developing state-of-the-art infrastructure for post-modern teachers who are going to teach the smart generation.

Teaching-Learning and Assessment is becoming challenging day-by-day. To cope with the Alpha generation, now on the verge of paperless teaching learning mode, our institution is working on Digital Pedagogy and Digital Lesson Plans. The value of blended learning is also realized, and teacher educators provide both online and offline facilities for academic and co-curricular activities.

As the world moves rapidly in technological advancements like Artificial Intelligence, we ensure that we do not forget our eternal Indian values of truth, beauty, and goodness. We groom responsible future teachers to ensure sustainable growth, environmental protection, democratic values, and humanism.

I, as Principal of this prestigious institution, welcome all stakeholders to visit this institution.
