DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

The Department of English is the second largest department of Government College of Education, Jammu. The department exists since the inception of this prestigious institution. Since GCOE, Jammu is the only Government Teacher Training institute in the entire Jammu region, we get students from almost all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Teaching of English is one of the most preferred courses along with core course. The course is designed in such a manner that all the fundamental problems related to theory and practice of English language learning and teaching in India is dealt with in detail. The English Faculty also hosts and supports numerous events for the students.

OBJECTIVES

• To make the student teachers understand the aims, objectives and scope of teaching of English language in the present global context.
• To familiarize the students with modern as well as the traditional methods, approaches and techniques of teaching of English.
• To develop language teaching skills with special focus on tone, intonation and correct pronunciation.
• To sensitize the student teacher’s about learner diversity.
• To develop integrated language teaching skills.
• To recognize the importance of effective communication skills through theory and practicum.
• To understand the role of technology in improving the language competence of students.

THE LANGUAGE CLUB

It is one of the most vibrant clubs of the college. The faculty holds a variety of events through online as well as offline mode throughout the year. The student teachers are given ample opportunity to hone their skills ranging from creative writing, poetry, short stories, dramatics as well as soft skills.
