Department of Physical Education and Sports

The Department of Physical Education and Sports is one of the most active departments in the Government College of Education. It supports B.Ed, M.Ed, and Integrated B.Ed-M.Ed programs. Besides teaching, the department provides recreational and sports equipment to students and staff. The department also organizes Intra/Inter College sports and Yoga tournaments for students of this college and the Cluster University of Jammu. The department currently comprises one faculty member and one local fund employee as an assistant.

Objectives

• To help learners understand teachers’ roles and responsibilities to promote Physical Education and Sports.
• Create awareness on different aspects of health and fitness among student teachers.
• To understand the purpose of Yoga, common Yoga asanas, and Pranayama.
• To develop understanding of Nutrition and First Aid.
• To understand various aspects in pedagogy of Health & Physical Education.
• To develop physical culture among students.
• To provide opportunity/platform to excel in Inter College/Inter University Sports Tournaments.

Infrastructural Facilities

The department is well-equipped with indoor and outdoor sports equipment including Chess, Carrom, Table Tennis, Yoga Mats, Rope Skipping, Badminton, Volleyball, Cricket, Tug of War, Spin Bike, Twister, etc. An Open Gym has been established for students and staff.
