About Us
The Government College of Education Jammu, established in 1955, has been constantly moving forward. It is the only government educational institution imparting teacher education in the Jammu region. It is recognized by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(b) and permanently affiliated to Cluster University of Jammu. Till 2017, it was affiliated to University of Jammu.
The college is at a distance of 5 Kms from the nearest Railway Station and 6.7 Kms from Jammu Airport. The total land area of the college is 9837 sq.mtrs. The built-up area of the college is 3141 sq. mtrs. The College was accredited by NAAC with B++ Grade in November 2023 (CGPA-2.87, valid up to November 29, 2028).

The college offers B.Ed. (02-year) and M.Ed. (02-year) courses with an intake capacity of 200 and 30 respectively. It also offers a 4-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP – B.A./B.Ed.) with a total intake of 100 students.
Right from its inception, the college has been a hub of academic, socio-cultural, and intellectual activities. It has always stood strong to prepare its stakeholders to embrace a broad educational outlook and strives towards excellence in both human resource development and infrastructure.
The college, as a team, consists of staff and students along with other stakeholders. It upholds itself as a model institution imparting social values alongside the teaching-learning process. It renders excellent service to the student community and promotes women empowerment through academic excellence, co-curricular activities, and sports achievements.
Now a constituent college of Cluster University Jammu, the institution provides ample opportunities for students to identify and explore their talents through competitions and inter-college participation. Students are encouraged to join clubs and student bodies.
The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir provides a diverse and enriching academic environment, encouraging interaction between students and faculty across institutions for the growth of higher education.
The college also supports various organizations such as University Examinations, IGNOU, BOPEE, PSC, UPSC, SSC, RRB, and banking examinations. It facilitates centrally sponsored schemes like PMSSS, scholarship programs, counseling sessions, and orientation programmes, thereby strengthening the relationship between teachers and students and contributing to societal growth.
