Department of Information and Communication Technology,

The Department of IACT offers support in running B.Ed and M.Ed courses of the college. Other than teaching , department also provide technical support to the other departments of the college and to the office of the principal in running day to day affairs which are related with the technology. The department comprises of one faculty member and one assistant. Besides teaching mandatory papers/subjects, the department also runs one-week computer awareness program for all the pupil teachers of the college till the introduction to two years B.Ed course.



Objectives
i. To help the learners become competent and confident users of ICT who can make efficient, effective and creative use of basic application software in their everyday activities and
ii. To encourage the learners to become critical and reflective users of ICT who can evaluate the capabilities and limitations of the technology and of social, technical, political, ethical, organizational and economical principles associated with its use and
iii. To prepare the learners for the society of tomorrow by making them adaptable users of ICT who have the necessary openness and flexibility of mind.
iv. To be able to adjust to future changes in the technology.
v. To understand the use of computers in education.

Infrastructural Facilities

The department has well equipped laboratory with state of the art computer hardware and software. The hardware includes more than 20 workstations interconnected with each other through server. The department has all the latest teaching aids and equipment including several multimedia projectors, B&W laser printers, scanner, etc. The department has one BSNL Broadband line internet connection catering to the needs of the students and faculty members of the college. The government under the scheme NME- ICT with unlimited broadband of 512Kbps speed provides the internet connection. The department has a comprehensive collection of latest books, which are stocked in the college main library. The department is subscribed to high speed internet connection of 4Mbps bandwidth (BSNL) broadband. The resource centre is networked for resource sharing and networking is implemented under star toplogy.

Achievements and Activities
Being the only Government College of Education in the Jammu province, this college admits 400 pupil teachers comprising of 250 fresher’s and 150 in-service teachers from Department of School Education, J&K state until the college adopted new two year B.Ed programme of NCTE. The Department of IACT has played a significant role in nurturing the computer education in the region.
  • Recently the department has organized 5-days workshop on ICT in Education under CSS-Teacher Education Scheme of MHRD, Govt. of India.
  • Department runs Computer Literacy/Awareness Program which is mandatory for the entire pupil teachers of the college.
  • The department imparted computer training to the non-teaching staff of the college in the year 2014 and 2015.
  • The department plays vital role in Printing and Publishing of College documents viz. College Magazines, Newsletters, Prospectus, National Seminar Souvenir, etc.
  • The department looks after the upkeep and maintenance of the college website.
  • The department proving support for online entry of Internal Assessment awards and On-line registration return after the admissions.
  • The department provides IT support to the college events in particular and for smooth functioning of the departments and principal office in general.

    The Department aims to strengthen teaching and research in various areas to provide state of the art computing facilities to all the students, faculty members and researchers so that they can remain at the forefront of technology. The department intends to keep pace with the emerging technology by pursuing research work in the contemporary challenges in the field of education. In addition, the department intends to organize National Seminar in the field of “Role of ICT in Education”.
